I don't know if this is the same edition I read mine was edited by Christopher MacGowan not Robert Crockett but this entry in the uniformly excellent Poetry for Young People series doesn't disappoint The introductory material about the poet's life is clear concise and interesting written in such a way that the intended audience learns the highlights of Williams' biography without becoming bogged down with unimportant details The selection of poetry featured here is also decent and I appreciate the blurbs that introduce each poem For example This is Just to Say is introduced as follows Williams thought that what a poem had 'to say' did not have to be about grand feelings or major events but could be about the moments of ordinary everyday life like this message from Williams to his wife We can almost taste and enjoy the plums along with the poet There are no superfluous words and the title even serves as the poem's first line This is Just to Say

I love the idea of combining poetry with artwork but the artwork here I just didn't enjoy Nevertheless it is helpful having some illustrated poems by great poets to share with elderly clients One thing I appreciate about this series are the editor's introduction and comments Even if I don't always agree with them they are thought provoking Today one of my clients seemed to really enjoy the Red Wheelbarrow and This Is Just To Say

A readable biography precedes presentation of poems along with a sentence or two of comment about the poem to help young readers connect In addition occasional definition of words or subjects for added explanation are included on the appropriate page The images are closely related to the poems Lovely
